Overview of our forensic services

The objective of all investigations is to identify the origin, cause, and circumstances of events through the use of the systematic approach to the scientific method. In 1992 the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) established the “Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations” commonly referred to as NFPA 921.

The NFPA also outlined the “The Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator” in NFPA 1033. Both standards have been adopted by the Canadian and United States Court System as the standard for fire investigations. Every fire has the potential of being something other than an accident. This means, every fire has the potential of being presented to the legal system for examination. Most adjusters and attorneys know the importance of involving an origin and cause investigator as quickly as possible. Documentation and evidence preservation are of paramount concern and should be done by an origin and cause investigator.

Our Certified Canine Fire Investigation team can assist our clients in determining if ignitable liquids were or were not present at the time of a fire.

The Accelerant Detection Canine team consists of Jeff Lunder and Canine “Eza”. Jeff is certified as an Accelerant K9 Handler and a member of Canine Accelerant Detection Association (CADA). Jeff retired after 35 years service with the Red Deer Fire Department as a Platoon Chief. He managed 35 firefighters and was required as an Incident Manager at all major scenes. Jeff was tasked with implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) including the Incident Command System, Fire Ground Operations, and Aerial Apparatus Operations. He has been training dogs since 1975 and an active member of the Canadian Kennel Club for over 30 years.

Canine “Eza” is a Czechoslovakian bred German Shepherd acquired from the RCMP Canine Training Services. She is trained to locate and passively indicate for the presence of the odour of ignitable liquids in structures, vehicles, on persons, clothing or outdoors. “Eza” completed her training (certified) in September 2015.

Interviewing and Statement Analysis

Global Forensics Inc. will assist our clients in conducting interviews and analyze statements.

The goal of interviewing and the analysis of statements is to  gather information as reliable and accurate as possible including collection of witness information, detecting deception, and recognizing misinformation.

Through statement analysis, one can obtain additional information from a person’s statement, as people tend to word their statements based on the knowledge they have at the time.

The key to good interviewing is to listen to what people are telling you
and know what to look for in a statement.

Photographic Services

It is well known that a photograph can quickly and easily convey information in a form that everyone can quickly comprehend. It puts the circumstances or location in context, as well as capturing important detail that on first inspection can easily be missed. This photographic record can be a key support of witness statements or can provide a negotiation tool for early settlement. Furthermore, the photography can be undertaken days, weeks or even years after the event to highlight important detail. Global Forensics Inc. will work with all our clients in photographing items of evidence important to their cases. Global Forensics Inc.will supply our clients with full photographic services including:

Micro Photography
Macro Photography
Videography

Aerial Photography – There are many advantages to be gained from this method of presenting photographic evidence. The equipment can capture views, ranging over a wide area, which may incorporate several linked scenes or intricate details that cannot be picked up at ground level or when photographed from an aircraft.

Our Transport Canada certified SUAV operators can conduct overall aerial images and videos along with conducting 3 dimensional mapping and images.

Infrared (IR) and Ultraviolet (UR) Photography – Ground Based 3D & 360º Imagery Services – Global Forensics has the ability to conduct 3D virtual tours of any type of scene including fires, structural failures, course of construction, documentation, and disaster scenes into real time which allows the client to view the scene without having to attend the scene.

Global Forensics Inc. will supply our customers with photographic “Go” kits including but not limited to the proper camera systems (point and shoot to DSLR’s), measuring equipment, external flash systems, macro and micro systems, aerial systems, and basic to advanced training. The kits can be supplied according to our client’s need.
